Tiger Mom The article “Battle Hymn of The Tiger Mom” is about Chinese parenting and how brutal we westerners claim for it to be, compared to the average American. Thousands of comments were left on Facebook and other worldwide communication sites for Amy Chua accusing her of bad parenting and partially the Chinese culture of abusive parenting. In this article with all the research I have done I will explain Mrs. Chua’s side and other people side through my point of view. Then share my opinions towards the end. What I understand from the article “Why Chinese Mother’s Are Superior” is for Amy Chua’s point of view on parenting skills is to not lower the child’s self-of-steem but to prevent the situation by pressuring the child to be the best and to avoid failure. In that saying, proceeding the Chinese way of our “Extreme” Chinese parents tend to override anything and every decision the Chinese child encounters. Deciding on what’s best for the child like piano instead of drums. No dedication or fake desires to activities other than the piano, violin and school. Amy Chua quotes “Nothing is fun until your good at it.” Not letting the child use the facilities, or threatening to donate toys to Goodwill unless he/she perfect a piece from Beethoven is everyday parenting.
In the same article to a western parent’s point of view of Chinese parenting, it is said to be claimed as abuse. The conditions of going to the extremes to becoming great at something that the child may not be interested in is unbelievable. Leaving a child with no breaks, no food or water, not even to stop to use the restroom until they finish a demand is insanity. Going to the extremes may cripple a child; it can jeopardize one mind and cause the child’s self-esteem to corrupt. “Western parents try to respect their children’s individuality, encouraging them to pursue their true passions, supporting choices and providing positive reinforcement and a nurturing environment.”
In the article “Amy Chua Is A Wimp” David Brooks argues that social life can be more important than reading a book daily. Individually a kid can get an “A” on a math test but may not be self educated in making the right choices or decisions in life especially if they just be cuddled in a room all day looking at a piano. Chua is putting her kids in a box and locking it up. Not letting her kids experience life and all its natural courses. How is a “Chinese” child to deal with relationships per say and know how to deal with it while the teens their age have already had experience, how are they to learn to trust someone and whose is trust worthy? It’s the little things that can cause a big issue in Chua’s children.
In the article “ In The Defense Of The Guilty, Ambivalent, Preoccupied Western mom” Ayelet Waldman is a mother who believes that if things get hard, quit it. If you don’t like something that you are doing quit it as fast as you can to save you from struggle. Chua and Waldman both want their kids to be good at school, but instead of the parent being their drilling on the school assignment for an “A.” Ayelet bought a tutor for the kid and let them figure it out on their own. Each child is different some need help or pushing and others may need some one to say just quite to trigger them into doing good. “roaring like a tiger may turn some kids into pianist who debut at Carnegle Hall but only crushes others. Coddling gives some children the excuse to fail and others the chance to succeed. “Amy Chua and I both understand that our job as a mother is to be the type of tigress that each of our different cubs need.”
In the article “Mother Inferior?” Hannah Rosin claims that being outside with friends as having fun is a better way to spend weekends than being cooped up in the house all day playing an instrument they were forced to practice. Finding their way of life by not always doing what mommy demands is more important. Hannah explains that becoming adult is to step up to your parents in what you believe in and make your own decisions. “What would be so bad if they fallowed their own interests and became an expert flutist, or a soccer star or even master tightrope walker? What is so special about the violin or the piano?”
In the article “My Asians Father’s Gift: Permission To Fail” it states that no matter how hard she was trying she still could not understand math until she heard her father say “ Why don’t you try and fail?” it was like a light bulb turned on. She was doing excellent in math class even though she passed the class with a low grade. I believe that putting too much pressure is bad for your health. Letting yourself fail once in a while might just be what one needs. Tend to relax your mind and actually think clearly and think the problems out may come out better than you may think.
I agree that the love of Amy Chua is no greater than another mothers love for her child. Amy Chua just shows it in a different way by drilling her children to do the best in school and music. Having no sleep over, no extra activities that will interfere with music lessons or something that goes on all day in the house. Being dedicated to school is a must, but when it comes to extra activities that’s where I draw the line. In those words I disagree on Amy Chua’s rule about no sleep over’s, no extra activates, not going to the bathroom. Kids should be allowed to have down time, not always stressing about something, all day. In the long run that’ll must liking cause health issues in their future. Being who you want to be and finding your way in life does not intentionally mean it’s your parent’s responsibility to pick and choose what you want to do. The only thing your parents are eligible to do is pressure you to do your must and get good grades. I believe that getting along with other people and learning or reading people is so much harder than learning a piece of work from Beethoven. People are not something you can look at and read and understand. I know I’m not the same everyday and I can probably change so much in one day. No one would recognize me. Making the right choices is way harder than staring at a piece of paper for hours.
Mistakes… The passage “Medusa and the Snail” by biologist Lewis Thomas explains that “mistakes are at the very base of human thought.” Meaning it is natural to make mistakes and fail. Learning from your mistakes will lead you into becoming a better person. Albert Einstein quoted “if you haven’t made a mistake yet, you haven’t tried anything new” sometimes one need’s to fail to learn how to get back up. It is human to make mistakes in life. “We are built to make mistakes, coded error” quoted Thomas Lewis in the passage “Medusa and the Snail” Do mistakes help you learn or fail? In my opinion it is both. Life has many odd situations that it will throw at you from time to time, but it is up to the individual whether he or she succeeds in them or fail. The person you are falls into the decisions you make and whether or not you learn from your mistakes or maybe even learn from other peoples mistakes. Also one may be more affected by learning from their successes or from others. It all comes down to how a person is. Not everyone functions only one way. Alexander Fleming is a good example of mistakes for the better. Working in a lab trying to find a cure to kill staphylococcus. He then discovers something from his unwashed dishes. Fleming saw the mold on the dish wiping out the virus in came in contact with. Through the years Fleming set aside the project and later in World War1 the doctors used Flemings research and saved a bunch of soldiers lives. Just as Lewis Thomson said “Sometimes mistakes only seem like mistakes but are actually improvements.”I agree with Lewis Thomson in that last quote. I had found that making a mistake may be for the better. One example of learning from a mistake for the better would be from lying to your parents at a young age. My little brother Junior at the age of seven tolled a lie to our mother saying that he did not hit our younger brother Alex. While our mother was talking to junior, I was helping Alex with his cut on the face. Our mother walked Junior to the room where I was with Alex to show how badly he had hurt him. That’s when the truth came out and also a whisper of an apology. For the first time Junior did not talk back when our mother demanded him to his room. Ever since then Junior has not hit Alex and is a little nicer to him. Only a little bit. Human thought are unpredictable and even the smallest of things in life can trigger one’s mind to do good or bad. Mistakes or success, it all comes down to one decision in proceeding with what one person thinks is the right thing to do. No matter how you may see fail as success or as success as a fail. It is who you are and the kind of mindset you have. Everyone is different.
Dear, Ventura County Star and Readers I do agree that the school made a good decision on letting the situation go more at ease by putting some slack for the students. Kids will be kids and we can’t fix the parents and their decisions on how they choose to raise them. A second chance may be the answer in this case. A second chance is and usually will only be necessary and seen for the youth in life and its lessons. Christine Pelton was right in making her own decision in leaving. Though in my opinion Christine simply gave up on her students, she believed that they did not want to learn and succeed. She just left them with no support for her students. She left because she believed that failing them is a good lesson and since she could not fail her students she ran off. Yes, it is true teachers are not your parents and that you need to learn on your own but sometimes in some cases a child might desperately need some guidance and support. Though the child may not ask for help wouldn’t you want to? Usually I am the students who don’t ask for help are the ones who need it the most. Parents want the best for their children even if they might not put any effort to do so. It was obviose that nothing was done the first time the class cheated on an assignment, and who’s to blame? But why fail the kid’s jeopardizing their future.

Change Essay
Margaret Meade quoted “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” In this essay I will explain to you that Margaret Meade is right. I will show you that she is right for the good and the bad things that a small group of people can do. Starting with 9/11.
On September 11, 2001 an Islamic man named Mahamad Atta lead twenty two Islamic worshipers into a suicide mission of high jacking aircrafts into theTwinTowers, White House, Congress and the Pentagon. They had succeeded in all except the White House. It was a very depressing day for everyone. Only twenty two men destroyed possibly billions and corrupted the heart of for the city and caused broken homes. No one could have expected any of that.
Flight 93 had only about forty passengers inside. That plane was headed for the White House and the passengers and flight attendants decided to try and take control of the plane causing the plane to miss its target and crash into an open field inPennsylvania. I believe the positive in this was the people’s decision on fighting to not let the plane concur its mission and ended up saving our main center of the state.
Another example of good would be the fifth of May. Better known as cinco de mayo. The Mexicans were out numbered in war fighting for theirIndependence. They were low in skill, knowledge and also weapons. The Fifth of May the Mexicans had won that war and till this day it is a day of remembrance on how a small group of people can achieve great things.
A small amount of people can do many things. It can peruse the president into making a decision for our state, fight for cancer in clubs around the world, open a small restraint called Mcdonalds then lead up to being on every street around the world, or even start wearing something different then become the next fashion statement you see on pop magazine. Though a small group can also cause massive destruction like the nine eleven or gangs. Like Margaret Meade quoted on how a little bit of people can make a big difference. I stand behind Meade on that. I believe I is true, maybe even our forty student class can make a change for the school. All in all I hope we have more good change and learn from our mistakes for the future. Medea.. I strongly disagree with the statement of Medea claimed as a hero. I’m not saying what Jason did was right but death of a child is no solution. I don’t care if Medea may have powers and is a princess in another kingdom. No mother has a right to kill their children. I understand that Medea is a broken woman. I understand that Medea gave everything to Jason including killing her brother and father for her desperate love of him but, who’s to blame? Though he did promise to love and care for her. I understand that king Creon was threatening to abandon her and her two children from the kingdom and the only thing that came to mind of a mad woman was to kill her own children to save them of someone else’s killing of them. But, death of the children from her own two hands proves that she didn’t love them as much as a true mother would have. What I suspect is Medea’s relationship with Jason evolved around the children. She believes that having children would have kept the couple together in a happy ending. Though to me yes, Jason did love Medea but loves his children even more and wants the best for them like a normal parent would. Jason was willing to divorce Medea and marry into royalty for the better of his children. In that being said I believe Medea was jealous of her husband picking the children over her. Which I believe if it’s for the better of the children what parent wouldn’t pick their children first before anything. I believe that is the real reason why she killed her children. She did not claim them as her own. No mother would kill unless she didn’t love.
Having threatened by King Creon was just an excuse for her wrong doing. She know what she did was wrong and her cover up was saying that she loved them so much she killed them herself but, in the end it all comes down to her hating Jason for divorcing her. What I believe she was really saying in her twisted head was that the children were part of the relationship and now that Jason is gone she wants nothing to do with them and wants to get back at him. In knowing of Jason that he would choose the kids over her she will kill them.
In my opinion Medea had no right into becoming royalty from the day she killed her brother and father. What she should have been claimed as is the wicked witch in the fairy tale. All in all I think Medea should be slaughtered. There will be no happy ending to this story unless she is dead. Like I said no mother would kill her children unless she didn’t love. It is to be considered murder in any condition
Best Friends :)
I have several of best friends. A best friend is not someone you just talk to most at school. A best friend is one you can vent to and have good chemistry. A best friend is one willing to help you through whatever.
I feel like the luckiest girl on earth because i have three of them. there names are Savannah, Anna, and tana :)
though I feel totally out of the loop since my last name does not end with an ana. Each of them have thier own specialty in them on being a good friend. They have done so much for me that i can not even explain.
Tana, she is an amazing girl that can and will back up her word. What I know.. I know what its like being an older sister to two little six and seven year old boys. It is a lot of annoying days, and headaches but usually it has its moments. The moments that are so special and I will never forget. Being an older sister means cancling plans for the day and having to babysit. It also can mean in the morning moms running late in getting ready so you have to get the boys ready for school even though you may be prepared yourself. Being an older sister to two little boys means you have to break up the fights or dissagreements before dad comes in the room in a bad mood. Also being an older sister can mean sticking up for them in certain situations. Like for example my brothers school was handing out free baby chiks and they wanted one. They both came to my parents and pleaded if they could have one and begged that if they get one they will watch over it and take care of it. Our parents had said no to them and later that night I was trying to persue them into letting the boys get one. I believe it would have been a good experience for them to learn how to be responsible since we are not aloud to own a dog right now.they still turned me down though. Another exampkle would be when junior the seven year old wanted to cut his hair into a mohawk. He has been wanted it cut like that for almost a year. Then finally one day at the hair salon I had persued my father into letting him have the hair cut he wanted. Though our dad made his decision a little late as the stylist had already evened out the bottom of his head. I remember running to the stylist and asked if tshe can still try for a mohawk look and she said “ it’s possibl” while I was talking to the stylist I could see my brothers facial expretion through the mirrior. He had the biggest smile on his face and I asked him “ do you want the lady to give you a mohawk?” and he replied with joy “ Yes!!” still with the biggest smile and a faint giggle. Though my brothers can sometimes be a pain in the *** , I still and always will cherrish the days I see a huge smile on their faces. They are growwing up way to fast for me, literally. It’s sad how I have to almost try and get a plate at the dinner table before they eat it all up. All in all being a sister has mad my life change for the better. I am glad to have them in my life. They keep me from making the wrong decisions in my actions. I love my babys. Now if your asking if I ever want children of my own……..id rather you not ask at all.:) The Larry King Murder..
Who is to blame for the murder of Larry King? It had seemed to be Brandon Mcinerny was the boy to pull the trigger on Larry but, there was so much background for the action that had taken place. Though, I will show you in this essay that everyone had taken a place to this murder and in the end one confused boy was taken from another’s rage.
Brandon was a fourteen year old boy in E.O Green Middle School that had life struggles from the beginning. A father being a drunk and a mother that was addicted to meth. In earlier years the father had shot the mother right in front of little Brandon’s eyes. Growing up in violence as a kid will lead situations into having only an option to violence just as the older brother. It was said they too also spent a lot of time in jail. Brandon Mcinerny is used to being around violence and is not afraid to be with a gun; in fact he is more familiar with it then other students.
Larry king was not your average boy. He had interest in the same sex. His childhood was bumpy knowing his parents had abandoned him and left him to be in a group home. In school Larry would wear high pink stilettos and makeup every day. Larry would sexually harass other boys in order to block them as they made fun of him. Larry was a well known boy at E.O.Green but, usually not from popularity. He had complaints from teachers about him being too distractive in class and not turning in his work. Those complaints were sent to the principle Mrs. Epstein, she basically ignored the fact that Larry is in danger and tolled Larry to be free in who you are as she gave him a prom dress, for she is also gay. They had no idea what consequences were coming.
One day at school Larry was feeling confident in him and during break he had asked his crush Brandon Mcinerny to be his valentine in the middle of a basketball game in front of Brandon’s friends. Brandon then soon had a rage of embarrassment and humiliation. The next day Brandon had brought a gun to school and shot Larry in the head twice in English class. Larry was claimed dead on February 13, 2008. Everyone had played their part in this murder case but who is truly to blame?
Adult or Juvinial?...
On Feb 12, 2008 Larry King was shot in the head twice by Brandon Mcinery at E.O Green Middle School. Many hearts were broken after a fellow student had murdered a member of the gay straight alliance. Sentences should be charged as first degree murder and be witnessed as an a adult action for the fourteen year old Brandon Mcinery brought a gun to school and started firing. Though he was young blood he committed a crime only an adult would proceed in.
For a middle school student murder should not be an option. What happened to the school? Where were they during the commotion? Did they have something to do with this? Brandon Mcinerys murder was definitely planned in rage and for a kid to only think of murder as an option that just gives the school a bad rep. He knew what he was doing and possibly did not care. No matter what people say on how young he was and he was not thinking clearly, he had still committed a murder.
I believe Brandon should go through adult jail for the crime he had done. Having a bad background in the house hold itself should be a huge sign that this kid might be seriously up to no good. And murdering someone is definitely a big check mark. Then again who’s to say that Brandon might not be so bad at all and due to his young age he might change In a better way. In my opinion Brandon should go to therapy till he is twenty five and let his behavior in jail determine if he should be given a second chance in life. Then again others may say since Brandon has chosen to take one’s life his should be taken away as well. Justice for Larry to Brandon would be in ones opinion, but in mine Brandon should in no words be sent straight to adult jail from the moment he pulled the trigger.
But the law says, since Brandon is not of age he will be sent as a juvenile and that’s the way our society works today. Justice right now is “ just-is” what the law says on paper will be proceeded . unless it is proven wrong. Maybe having Brandon get out of jail at the age of twenty five is a god sent. Though if he douse prove the court wrong and he douse do something bad as everyone suspects. Then hopefully change will come to the court and try a new way of justice when a case like that accurse once again. Maybe Larry did not just give his heart to a girl in need. Maybe with his case he will give justice in the future for the changes the court has made. As said before the court will follow the law for security until it has been proven wrong and that’s how history is made. Texts versus images our society today releases more images then text. In our twentieth century the only attention grabber to us Americans is usually through media. Today most Americans watch about an hour a day of television and another hour on the computer. Images tend to spark a person more than a text. Just like comparing a photo to a text.wich one is to be viewed first? I believe photos are easier to the eye to understand a text gives an understanding detail. A photo is a seconds of a shot taken in a moment. It can lead to an understanding visually. For example in Hurricane Katrina words from a news paper article put people into shock but a picture from the incident gives a better view on what people are gong through. A picture usually has a greater affect on a persons understanding of emotion. It can leave a scar in a persons head as it did to mine. Powerful words usually give a better understanding of emotion and strategy to what had happened. Word in articles gives you your own view on emotion. It leads to picturing the situation in your head. Trying to understand in your own mind how it would look like or be like. Words in general put out a definition of a feeling and let you be independent on seeing it your way. But can you picture the hurricane of Katrina in your head? In my opinion that would be difficult and that’s why the media will show pictures as well with text. When putting an image and a full descriptive writing below it you will for sure get the best understanding. Pictures and words alone are powerful, but when u put them together they will become real. Emotion becomes greater and sometime you tend to put yourself in the picture an you can feel the destruction, sadness, pain,or happiness, joy and any other feeling. Incompletion a paper can be written with over a thousand words in it and people can try to picture the emotion in there head, but a picture is exactly all of those words. A picture can give a conclusion on a persons view. A picture alone won’t survive with out description. A picture alone has no conclution. LoV3,…..<3
To science yes we have a lot of chemicals in us that are produced when we are attracted to someone but, we are not just a chemical. Something triggers them that is unexplainable. What is love? What triggers us in having love? Is love just all chemicals? Who is to say. I believe that love is not something you can draw from your body. It is way more spiritual than that.
In the evolutionary process visual attraction is the first thing noticed in looking at someone. The features from a male that usually attracts a female would be the muscles, the structure of the face something that is presented stating he is a matured male. The attraction to the male would be the females body as well. Having a thin body with a curves is defiantly number one, having good hygiene is another. With all the attractions feeding off of each other this would possibly were science steps in with the chemicals because in this stage it is more of a sex drive.
Chemical responses are triggered by attraction of the opposite sex. The femininity of the female can trigger testosterone in a male to drive to the brain creating a sexual mentality. Though the real connection comes with interacting with the person. If chemistry is found between one another than a chemical called dopamine comes about. Dopamine is found in the drugs cocaine and meth being with someone and having the joy creates that drug. When people say they feel empty when the couples break apart it might be because there is no more dopamine being produced. Love, It Is not a material nor a liquid or kind. Not everyone may find love. Scientist are example B on being literal in finding love with all these chemicals and forms. The ones who have found love can explain it but not show it by drawing blood. Love is something we are born with that needs to burst and is invisible to the eyes of doctors or surgeons. Love is more spiritual and is an extreme emotion toward one person. Experiences to being departed by one another may lead to death, not literally but some day they die a little inside.
To some, love is just chemicals flowing in your body but to many it is just so much more than that. I am one of those people that believe love is not a chemical though I may not believe in love at first sight but maybe its because I am young. who knows? Or maybe it’s because all I see from my family is guy after guy. Maybe they haven’t found there true love but if those were from first sight then that is why I may not truly believe in it being the first sight. Love is spiritual and if it were to be a chemical than that would mean everyone could inject it and have love……<3 One Thing..
On July 26, our English teacher Mr.Geib gave us an assignment to write about “ One thing” I cherish the most. It is now July 27 and I still have a blank paper in front of me. In literally no time left to think it came down to one really special thing and moment that I would like to share. This one thing was not for one thing. It was many and it helped me out a lot.
This one thing would be what I call as my spiritual bracelet. It has every saint on it according to the catholic religion. I am a strong blood catholic. Both sides of my family are catholic whether they changed to catholic or were already one. No we are not the family where you have to marry a catholic or the spouse has to change his religion, it just ended up happening that way. The bracelet is real silver all around and can fit anyone’s wrist. This Bracelet is very special to me and I will try and explain to you as quickly and shortly as I can.
This bracelet was given to me in the time of need. It came to me a little after a big situation in my life where I had no hope left. I started going to church more and singing in the choir with my grandma, yeah I know lame to do on the weekends but I liked it. After church one day I was walking to the car and a very special sister “a teacher from church school” came up to me and I haven’t seen her in a year. I was so excited to see her I used to go to church school since I was in preschool and stopped in seventh grade. As we were walking she asked how I was and then asked if I could help her with something. We started walking back in the church. She then was slowing her past and took off the beautiful silver bracelet. She had said that Father Charles “priest” my only priest I ever had blessed it a year ago and she never took it off. She gave it to me and said to never take it off .weeellllll that didn’t happen since I had practice but I still keep it an cherish it. I’ve had thoughts of passing it on to another person, but I came to the conclusion that it will stick with me forever until I die and that bracelet will be in my Will. The bracelet helped me in many ways. It is not just “One Thing” it was many. Love To Rearanged Marraige..
The conditions between romantic love and traditional rearranged love. They both have each other’s benefits and possible losses. In this essay I will define both of them and later on explain my own opinion in having a loving relationship.
Starting with a more rearranged marriage most parents are looking for what best supports their daughter in time of financial needs. Also a strong well built male would better protect the daughter and a possible child in the future. A traditional marriage in my opinion is more on the love and respect that the daughter has for her parents. To respect her parent’s wishes on their beliefs on what is best for the daughter and the family. She will sacrifice her heart into marrying what best fits the family for the honor of her parents. Though she might not even like her partner maybe not even as a friend, but that is what a rearranged marriage is. it’s a big risk taker. I believe for the new wife in the rearranged marriage that it she just gets by every day. It’s like a bad song that you here on the radio all the time, you end up singing along with it. In other words, the new wife becomes used to the everyday life and goes along with it. That’s exactly the opposite in defining romantic love.
Romantic love, it’s all about the feeling baby. It’s about emotional attraction with one another. To the chemistry, the visual attraction, and the sex. In our society today we practice that tradition. “ first comes love, then comes marriage, then comes a baby in a baby carriage.” That song has stuck with us since we were in kindergarten! Romantic love is nothing else other then the heart speaking. Though sometimes it may lead us into not using our head and end up in the worst situations “ Love is so blind” quoted Rihanna after getting a brutal beat down from her boyfriend Chris Brown. Love can leave us not thinking sometimes. I blame that on the dopamine, but not totally.
In my opinion I would consider both. I believe in falling in love and not be sent off as a child to already have my lover. I want both love, affection, and a good future not only in the relationship but also the financial. I’m not saying I’m a gold digger but what attracts me is when a boy is trying to something with his life. He is not just sitting there thinking what he wants to do because the only way to find out what you want to do is by moving in life and that’s when I believe he is becoming a real responsible man. Also having the support of protection and feeling safe with him.
I learned that in life you are learning every step of the way though you may not think you are. It may take a while to get in the right track just like relationships. Finding the right one may not be the first the second or the third partner. Maybe not even till later in my life, but that’s what’s being a teenager. Learning what you like and dislike and when you finally have the one you may k now instantly that you are in true love. Like Mr.Geib said “ you have to kick a few tires before you can put in on the car.”
I Believe ...

The article “Battle Hymn of The Tiger Mom” is about Chinese parenting and how brutal we westerners claim for it to be, compared to the average American.
Mistakes…
The passage “Medusa and the Snail” by biologist Lewis Thomas explains that “mistakes are at the very base of human thought.” Meaning it is natural to make mistakes and fail.
Dear, Ventura County Star and Readers
I do agree that the school made a good decision on letting the situation go more at ease by putting some slack for the students.

Now if your asking if I ever want children of my own……..id rather you not ask at all.:)
The Larry King Murder..
Love is spiritual and if it were to be a chemical than that would mean everyone could inject it and have love……<3
One Thing..
